These are some questions that are asked a lot...

How does MASA work?
MASA is an umbrella scholarship organization that gives grants to participants on a variety of Israel programs. Most of our participants are eligible for MASA's guaranteed grants - you can fill out an application at www.masaisrael.org to find out if you qualify. If you receive money from MASA you will get it in the form of a reimbursement after the program has ended. MASA only releases money after it has verified that you have completed the program.

How much money does MASA give?
Starting September 2009 MASA will give guaranteed grants of $1,000 for eligible participants who have not completed college and $3,000 to those who are post-college. Anyone beginning an Ulpan program before September 2009 will receive between $1,000 and $3,000. Participants can apply for additional need-based funding.

How should I select a kibbutz?
Some kibbutzim are popular because of their location or reputation, but in general the Ulpan program at each kibbutz is designed to be similar to every other one. When selecting a kibbutz the two most important things to keep in mind are the dates of its Ulpan and its location, e.g. is it important to you that the kibbutz be near a big city, or near the ocean, etc. ? Most kibbutzim nowadays have websites as well, you can look online to see pictures and information about kibbutzim you are considering.

How does the application process work?
As soon as we have received all of the registration materials from you, including the registration fee, we will contact you to do an interview over the phone. The interview is informal and serves to help us be sure that you have genuine interest in the program and gives us an opportunity to explain the program to you so you know what to expect. Once the interview is completed and we have confirmation from Israel and the Jewish Agency that you are properly registered we will send you an acceptance packet with detailed information about packing, kibbutz life, obtaining a visa, and other important things. Full payment for the program is due 4 weeks before it begins.
